Audi have come up with a revised version of the A6 and along with it a list of new capable engines and options to be released on the public. We got down to the launch in Stellenbosch to test out how the new version copes.

Physically the car has a few minor changes to it, most noticeable the aluminium trim skirts on the outside as well as the need for a rear diffuser. But the engine department is where Audi have made the most significant changes to the A6.

In an attempt to acquire the entry level customer in this segment, the A6 can be fitted with Audi’s 2.0 TFSI motor that puts out 125kW and 280Nm of torque. This addition is an interesting choice as the A6 is quite a large car to be hauled around by the smaller 2.0-litre motor.

The other interesting change Audi have incorporated is the use of a supercharger, which Audi expect to be more efficient and suitable to today’s driving conditions.

The supercharger connects itself to the 3.0-litre model but still holds its TFSI badge. The 3.0 TFSI puts out a perky 213kW and a large 420Nm of torque. Expect this version to be a real genie up here at altitude, no lag and a super tiptronic gearbox will make for a seductive saloon.

Other petrol variations of the A6 include the 2.8 FSI and the 4.2 FSI. In diesel format the A6 will come in a 2.7 TDI and 3.0 TDI. Interestingly though Audi say they do not intend to bring in the Avant (station wagon) to South Africa as they implied that it is not financially viable in this country.

The flagship model for the A6 will come from the RS6 which as most will know is powered by the mutant 5.0 TFSI twin turbo V10.

Prices for the A6 start at R372 500 for the 2.0TFSI.
