There are a number of exciting new vehicles heading to South African shores this year. We've picked out ten of the best.
Hyundai Veloster: South Africa has been waiting for this odd-ball hatch for a couple of years now. It has an asymmetrical door configuration, with one large door on the driver's side and two smaller ones on the passenger side. Expect a 1.6-litre petrol engine.
Jaguar F-Type: The Jaguar F-Type - a two-seater sports car of immense beauty - is set to grace local roads this year. There'll be a 3.0-litre V6 (as well as a tuned version) and a 5.0-litre V8... so that means power and beauty.
Peugeot 208 GTi: The 208 is here already, and we simply can't wait for the GTi version to arrive. This lightweight hot hatch will employ a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine pumping out 147kW and 275Nm.
Nissan Leaf: A five-door electric hatchback, the Leaf is finally heading to SA. But will South African buyers be interested in an all-electric car?
Fiat Qubo: The Qubo is an MPV all about function, and features a massive carrying capacity.
Ford EcoSport: Unveiled at the 2012 Delhi Motor Show, the Ford EcoSport is another mini-SUV. And of course it'll use Ford's acclaimed 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine.
Suzuki Splash: The Splash has been around for a number of years, but is finally heading to our shores in 2013. It's a five-door city car and will slot in below the Suzuki Swift. Will this be the end of the Alto, then?
Mitsubishi Mirage: The subcompact Mirage has been out of production for a few years, but will make an appearance in South Africa now that the nameplate has been resurrected.
Ford Fiesta ST: The new Fiesta is pretty much here, and the ST is expected to follow closely on its heels. The little hot hatch will be powered by a 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine delivering an appreciable 132kW and 240Nm. We can't wait.
Chevrolet Trax: General Motors is set to introduce the Chevrolet Trax to South Africans sometime in 2013. The Trax is a compact crossover SUV - a segment fast gaining popularity in the country.
