On the way to winning Class D, the Cadillac BLS turbo took home the title of most fuel efficient petrol vehicle (by index) in the Total Economy Run. Beating off some worthy competitors, the newest luxury entrant to the GMSA product stable consumed 6.021 litres of fuel during the run for an indexed figure of 3.466.
"At under R250 000, not only is the Cadillac BLS one of the most affordable luxury vehicles on the road but it also proves that owning a premium vehicle does not have to mean paying more on your fuel bill," said Billy Tom, Brand Manager for Cadillac vehicles.
Hot on the heels of the Cadillac BLS in Class D, was the Saab 9-3 SportSedan driven by Gerry Gericke/John Smit which came second in Class D and second on fuel index overall.
Further class wins were recorded by the Opel Astra 1.6 Essentia (Class C), recently launched Chevrolet Captiva (Class L) and the powerful Chevrolet Lumina V8 SS (Class G).
"We are very pleased with the performance of our vehicles in this, the 31st running of the Total Economy Run. These results prove that our vehicles are industry leading in fuel efficiency and that Cadillac and Saab premium vehicles, in particular, lead the way in the premium sector of the SA passenger market," said Malcolm Gauld, Vice President Sales and Marketing for GMSA.
