Remote signal jamming is becoming increasingly common in South Africa, leading Hyundai Automotive SA to offer its vehicles with a jam alert system.
The Korean brand is offering the Sanji ZX Jam Alert system as an optional accessory, for the price of R896.61, including fitment.
If the system detects a signal from a jammer's device, it will give four sound pulses from a 110 decibel siren to alert the car owner.
The ZX Jam Alert, a product of Sanji Security Systems, is fitted in the engine compartment of the vehicle.
Hyundai SA says the installation of the system, which draws its power from the car's battery, will not affect the vehicle's warranty since Sanji Security Systems is a "preferred supplier" of the brand.
Fitment can be be done at the time of purchase of the vehicle or any time thereafter at a Hyundai dealership.
The ZX Jam Alert, which is contained in a water-resistant housing, carries a three-year or 100 000km warranty, and will take an average time of 45 minutes to install. An optional backup battery is also available.
