Volkswagen has been named 2012's "Most Admired" automobile manufacturer by US business magazine Fortune, leapfrogging previous winner BMW.
Daimler's Mercedes-Benz held onto third place, meaning German manufacturers took all three podium places. Toyota regained its footing by moving from seventh to fourth, while Honda plunged to eighth from fifth. Nissan was stuck at the bottom of the list, in ninth place. Renault rounded out the top ten.
Ford managed to jump one spot to fifth, while General Motors climbed two spots to seventh.
