An Australian motorist has been caught on camera assaulting a blind man and other pedestrians who he thought were taking too long to cross the road.

The incident took place in Newcastle, Australia, and a portion of the assault was captured on video by a bystander.

The blind man, who was taking a walk with his guide dog, was apparently not familiar with the area and had strayed from the pavement into the road. The motorist then apparently exited his vehicle and began hurling insults at the man.

When the blind man's carers attempted to intervene, the motorist is seen assaulting both of them. First, a woman gets pushed to the ground, and then her husband is punched in the face.

The footage then stops — this is when the blind man was reportedly assaulted — before resuming with the motorist being chased by other pedestrians.

"I couldn't believe that someone could attack someone so defenseless," a witness told 9News.

The police are reportedly investigating the incident.
