Each month, the Department of Trade and Industry releases the figures for new car sales in South Africa.
And each month we'll bring you the top ten sellers in the passenger car segment.
For the record, Naamsa reported that aggregate industry sales dropped by 6.8 percent to 53 025 vehicles in January 2014, when compared to the same period a year ago.
Bear in mind that Hyundai and Kia do not submit their figures. Mercedes-Benz SA, however, is again providing detailed sales data.
So, what happened in January? The Volkswagen Polo Vivo stays firmly on top, while the regular VW Polo climbs back to second from its fourth place in December. The Toyota Etios thus falls one spot to third, while the Ford Figo also drops one to fourth.
The Toyota Corolla/Auris combo hangs on to fifth ahead of the local launch of the new Corolla, while the BMW 3 Series rockets into the table at sixth (interestingly, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class falls out of the top ten altogether). The Chevrolet Spark also re-enters the list, claiming seventh spot with over 1100 units sold in January.
The ever-popular Toyota Fortuner drops a place to eighth, with the Ford Fiesta climbing up to ninth. The Volkswagen Golf rounds out the top ten, dropping from the eighth spot it secured in the last month of 2013.
