Specialist Formula 1 journalist Hendrik Verwoerd has been covering the sport on radio, television and in print for various media outlets in South Africa for 23 years.

He made his debut as radio commentator during the 1985 South African Grand Prix at Kyalami and hosted SABC-TV’s coverage of Grand Prix racing between 1991 and 1999.

He is F1 correspondent for Afrikaans-language media group Naspers (Die Burger, Volksblad and Beeld newspapers), Ramsay, Son & Parker (Wiel magazine), Sunday newspaper Sondag, English-language Primedia Broadcasting (Talk Radio 702 and Cape Talk) and South African motoring annual Wheels, and has attended 25 grands prix as FIA accredited journalist since 2002.

Verwoerd is also editor of the popular weekly Formula 1 newsletter Formula One Week, the content provider for Vodacom’s daily updated motorsport telephone service Motorsport Update (082-231-2310), a regular motorsport commentator on Supersport, host of SABC3’s coverage of the A1GP series and presenter of the highly successful TV motoring show 'Car Torque', broadcast by SABC3 every Sunday.

Just to keep him out of mischief, Verwoerd is also a partner in Podium Travel, South Africa’s only dedicated international motorsport travel operation, arranging and hosting tours to Formula 1 and other international racing events, and he appears as guest speaker and master of ceremonies at selected functions.

He is iafrica.com's regular Formula 1 columnist.
