Adrian Zaugg this week responded to comments from A1 Team Australia?s Alan Jones who, following South Africa?s first ever Test cricket series victory on Australian soil, was quick to point out that A1 Team Australia was performing better in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport than arch enemy A1 Team South Africa.

Jones, Formula 1 world champion in 1980 in a Williams, is the seat holder for A1 Team Australia.

"I think Alan forgets that unlike Graeme Smith, I won in Australia the very first time I went there despite the fact that his driver and many others probably knew the circuit far more intimately than me," said Zaugg.

"His comments are also very premature ? the season is still in its early stages and if he thinks Australia is going to stay ahead of us he?s in for a rude awakening. It doesn?t surprise me though that Alan is making these kind of comments ? from what I have read about his race driving career, his mouth always seemed to be the quickest thing about him."

A1 Team South Africa general manager, Mike Carroll, weighed in too: "Alan?s comments seem to be coming from a man who is hurting ? it?s great to see the Australians hurt especially after defeat to South Africa in a sport they have dominated for so long.

"Adrian really didn?t enjoy Alan?s comments and he?ll get another chance to put one over the Aussies at home next season when we race at Surfers Paradise on October 25 ? Alan has already said he wants to win at home, so Adrian should wait for that opportunity to really sting him back.

"Before then, though, we still have two other 'tri-nations' races this season to focus on, the New Zealand race this coming weekend and straight after that the South African race at Kyalami on February 22."
