Motorpics.co.za reports that the A1GP looks like it is on its last legs.
Noting that the A1GP website (www.A1GP.com) has reappeared on the web after dying just a day before, the motor industry news supplier said that the has "lunged from rope to rope over the last view seasons, but it seems that a TKO is now inevitable".
Despite chairman Tony Teixeira's fervent assurances to the contrary, it has been reported that the series is about $100-million in the red.
Motorpics said: "Energem, the source of Teixeira's millions, was first suspended and then delisted from Toronto Stock Exchange earlier this year. Now listed on the London Stock Exchange, it is receiving unfavourable publicity for using shareholders' money to buy the director's private jet."
The company suggested that Gauteng Motorsport and Team A1GP South Africa could save themselves much future effort and embarrassment by pulling out of the series now. This is especially pertinent now that it appears Ferrari has pulled the plug on the engine supply deal it has with A1GP.
Although Ferrari has neither confirmed nor denied the reports, the new A1GP logo no longer sports the line "Powered by Ferrari".
Could it be that this motorsport is far past losing its proverbial wheels and already up on the block?
