Organisers of the Dakar Rally cancelled Wednesday's 11th stage on Tuesday because of the predicted adverse weather conditions.

Tuesday's stage had already been disrupted by thick fog and organisers said they were in no mood to suffer similar delays on Wednesday.

"The weather forecast for Wednesday predicting thick fog till the end of the morning will upset the whole programme for the stage," read a statement from the organisers.

"As a result, the stage is cancelled.

"The competitors will move on to Fiambala (the purported finish for the stage in Argentina) on Wednesday morning."
