Round two of the Bridgestone Production Car Championship will take place at Killarney (Cape Town) on 13 March 2010. With one race win already under their belts, Audi Motorsport will be hoping to add more accolades to their 2010 Championship campaign.
The Western Cape Circuit has always been a good hunting ground for the Audi Motorsport teams. In fact, Audi A4 drivers have won six of the last eight races held at Killarney, despite the fact that the 3.3Km circuit best suits the Nissan 350Z chassis.
Following his great performance at Kyalami three weeks ago, Michael Stephen (Engen Xtreme) will be hoping to continue his good form and add valuable points to his 2010 championship standings. Michael finished third in both the 2008 and 2009 Championships and will be hoping that 2010 will be his year.
Killarney is, however, the domain of hometown hero Johan Fourie (IndyOil). Barring technical issues, Johan is extremely difficult to beat in Cape Town and has the full support of the large and vocal Capetonian crowd behind him. Johan had a difficult start to the season and will be looking to minimise the damage, as he tries to defended his back to back Class A Championship titles.
After suffering with a technical gremlin at Kyalami, Tschops Sipuka (Engen Xtreme) will be itching to show just what he can do in the A4. 2010 marks Tschops? return to Production Car Racing after a year in single seaters.
Although the A4s appear to be slightly off the pace at the moment, the quattro system will soon play its part. With success in Production Cars comes weight. This added success ballast has a huge affect on the rear-wheel drive vehicles handling, braking and acceleration.
These adverse affects are dramatically reduced by Audi?s impressive quattro system and will soon give Audi Motorsport a huge advantage over their rear wheel drive counterparts.
With three South African Champions in its ranks, there is no doubt that Audi Motorsport is the most accomplished team in the Bridgestone Production Car Championship. The trio will be put to the test in three gruelling races on Saturday 13 March 2010.
