Panamera benefits a neutral stance while the Sport button, they say, ensures body roll is totally eliminated in cornering forces of up to up to 1G. And that so-cool rear spoiler impressively unpacks itself to improve speed and fuel economy up to 200km/h, from where it redeploys to enhance downforce.

So Panamera certainly is a fine handling machine perfect for flat out Bahnstorming — but it is also impressively comfortable and rides in a most sophisticated manner.

Another weapon in the big Porsche's considerable arsenal is Panamera's seven-speed "Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe" dual-clutch transmission. First gear is quite short, but then you barely notice the pre-selected shift to second, while Sport Plus on the Sport Chrono Package will blip the throttle on downshifts.

The box also allows effortless 200km/h seventh gear cruising at 2800rpm, while Panamera also comes with a standard stop/start system to cut off the engine every time you stop to improve in-town economy and emissions

Built to pamper four passengers in serene comfort, Panamera certainly delivers on that promise: the driver and front passenger sit low and deep inside that high centre console and door sills, while there's enough head- and legroom in the back to match any of its limo rivals riding on a normal wheelbase. Of course, it's all hewn from the very finest materials while typical Porsche-slim buttons and switches and those regular four dials do the business.

The touch-screen infotainment system comes out of 911 and the optional Burmester audio system is stunning, while standard spec appears to be significant enough that you won't need to break the bank to include that kitchen sink

Common sentiment suggests Panamera looks better on the road than it perhaps does in photos, but the car's huge dimensions are still apparent — the Turbo's more aggressive body style, however, helps sweeten it a little more. The flagship benefits a revised front bumper, individual headlamp style and a raft of other small changes.

For sure though, the Panamera Turbo has so far solved our initial concerns of what seemed staid styling. It's imposing, powerful, supreme and most of all, it's a Porsche. We now look forward to getting to know it just a little better back home.

Can't wait
