The Ford F-150 SVT Raptor, whose name is a combination of fighter jet and dinosaur, aims to be like its namesake by being aggressive, tough and fast in nature.
The Raptor is due for release in 2010 and has been created with the off road enthusiast in mind, Ford calling on their extensive desert racing experience and great record. In the 2007 Best In The Desert series, Ford notched up eight championships in nine divisions.
It seems likely that Ford will give the F-150 some serious "beef", powering it with a thundering V8 to shift its weight. A staunch 231kW, 5.4-litre engine will be available, pushing out 500Nm of torque.
The Raptor will perform and impressive 0-to-100km/h sprint in less than nine seconds and cross the quarter mile in under 18 seconds.
This big bakkie does not come only with the brute force image as Ford have developed special technologies, such as a stability control system that predicts the vehicle's path using a sensor to measure oversteer and yaw. Working in conjunction with this system is a unit that can determine from the yaw motion of the truck if its trailer is swaying and take action to compensate for this movement.
Although the Raptor is not due for at least another year its sure to provide sweet dreams for all bakkie lovers.
It's not often you hear of a company that wants a zero score - but Renault's plans depend on it.
