The Peugeot 207 has undergone a rather radical makeover that includes new styling, revised cabin and a more powerful engine.
It is still available in three-door and five-door hatchback versions, with a choice of petrol and turbodiesel engines.
Outside revamp
The grille and fog lights have been repositioned and the Urban and Active models sport a "larger, more pronounced grille" in black, Peugeot says. The Dynamic grille gets chrome highlights, as do the surrounds for the fog lights.
New LED lights have been added to the rear and alloys have been updated. Urban models have 15-inch 'Hobart' steel rims, Active models a set of 15-inch 'Brisbane' steel rims and a new, five-spoke 'Canberra' alloy wheel is standard on all Dynamic models. CC Sport 2 and GTi derivatives ride on 17-inch 'Melbourne' alloys.
Inside makeover
Peugeot has updated the 207 cabin with new trim and detailing, a new air-conditioning control panel, and revised standard features.
"The overall effect places an even stronger emphasis on contemporary design and passenger wellbeing, while tangible quality is enhanced even further," Peugeot says.
New to all models in the range is a one-touch function makes the indicators flash three times - ideal for a quick lane change or overtaking manoeuvre.
Any open windows can now also be automatically closed from outside the vehicle by holding the lock button on the car's remote.
New engine
Apart from the standard petrol and turbodiesel engines, the entry-level 207 Urban has a new 1.4-litre engine with variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust valves. It produces maximum power of 70kW at 6000rpm and 136Nm at 4000rpm
It will push the 207 from zero to 100km/h in 11.5 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 185km/h. Fuel consumption remains relatively frugal at 6.1l/100 km.
The new Peugeot 207 range officially goes on sale at the end of September, with the Urban three-door and the Active the first of the revised line-up to reach local showrooms. The full complement of new 207 models will be available from mid-October.
Pricing
Price includes a four-year or 60 000km service plan and a three-year or 100 000km warranty. Emergency roadside assistance is also included.
