Lexus is expanding its IS250 range with a new EX model designed to fill the gap between the S and SE versions.
Lexus SA general manager Kevin Flynn says that the IS250EX "hits a comfortable middle point" between models by delivering the high levels of standard equipment in the S but some of the additional luxury and functionality from the SE.
Same power
The model will have the same engine as the rest of the range: A 2.5-litre, V6 developing 153kW at 6400rpm and 252Nm at 4800 rpm. Top speed is a claimed 225km/h and zero to 100km/h time is measured at 8.4 seconds. Combined cycle fuel consumption is 9.1l/100km.
Keyless entry is standard and the cabin has one-touch electric windows, heated mirrors, dual zone climate control with pollen filter, eight-way adjustable electric leather seats and a multi-function steering wheel with paddle shift.
Cruise control is standard, and the trip computer functions can be controlled from the steering wheel.
No-cost extras
Entertainment is provided by an in-dash six-CD changer with an auxiliary wireless drive for an iPod or MP3 player that also has Bluetooth connectivity.
The EX adds the 7-inch LCD display found in the SE and so features satnav, reverse camera and park distance control.
Flynn says Lexus will also consider the EX model grade as a basis for new versions in its GS and RX line.
"Unlike many of our competitors, the luxury options are included as standard at no additional cost," says Flynn.
