Volkswagen enters the small SUV market with its Tiguan which hits South African roads at the end of April.

One of the worldwide innovations in the new Tiguan range is the all-new 1.4TSI engine. This 1.4-litre twin-charger TSI (Turbo Stratified Injection) engine is billed as the world’s first petrol engine with direct injection and dual charging. It combines turbo charging, super charging and direct fuel injection to for improved performance and fuel economy as well as reduced CO2 emissions.

The compact SUV offers the choice of one off-road and two on-road models. The "Trend & Fun" and the "Sport & Style", both available with 4motion all-wheel-drive, are more at home in the urban jungle. They include features like sports suspension, slick styling and heightened comfort levels designed to make urban motoring an adventure.

The "Track & Field" off-road Tiguan also comes with 4motion all-wheel-drive as standard. A 'push button' off-road setting that includes features like hill descent and traction control, smoothes the transition between the city and the outdoors. The TSI engine is also available in the Track & Field.

The new Tiguan will initially be available in six different models with three distinct specification levels.
