Swedish carmaker Volvo added another variant to its V40 range, the V40 Cross Country.

The Cross Country is distincly different from Volvo's XC models in that it has been made to be an all-road version of the Swedish manufacturers' V40 car.

The Cross Country rides 40mm higher than the standard V40 and benefits from All-Wheel Drive to further enhances its all-road, all-weather capability.

The All-Wheel Drive is only availble with the 2.5l petrol turbo engine. The engine has a power output of 187kW and 400Nm of torque, including 40Nm overboost delivered during acceleration. It comes with automatic transmission and acceleration from 0-100km/h takes 6.5 seconds. Fuel consumption is 7.8l/100km.

There is also the T4, a 1.6-litre GTDi engine with 132kW and maximum torque of 270Nm, including 30Nm overboost. Fuel consumption is 5.5l/100 km. This corresponds to CO2 emissions of 129g/km.

Volvo also offers two diesel engines for the V40 Cross Country.

The five-cylinder 2.0-litre D4 turbodiesel delivers 130kW and has torque of 400Nm across a wide rpm range. Acceleration from 0-100km/h takes 8.3 seconds with the automatic gearbox. Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are 5.2l/100 km (137 g/km) with the automatic gearbox.
 
In addition there is the 2.0-litre D3 producing 110kW and 350Nm of torque. Both turbodiesels are available with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Cross Country will also feature start-stop and braking energy regeneration across the Cross Country range as well as hill descent control.

The vehicle will be on sale in South Africa in early 2013.
