After the horrific crash which claimed the lives of two men, authorities will repeat the call for national government to ban trucks on the N1 during peak hour traffic.
Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said that occupants of the car died when a truck landed on the roof in an incident that also injured the truck drive. This crash closed the inbound lane of the N1 at the Koeberg interchange in Cape Town.
Mayoral committee member for safety and security JP Smith said: “We have suggested that an urgent intervention is necessary by the national government.
"We proposed to them that heavy motor vehicles should not operate at peak times.”
He added that although the government did not respond, the provincial transport department said that banning trucks during peak hours would have a significant impact on the local economy.
