On Sunday, an accident occurred which IOL refers to as “bizarre” as traffic officials tried to understand the dynamics of the crash.
A witness reported that a red Opel Corsa was moving through traffic on the M5 near Rondebosch “at a tremendous speed” before it went airborne into a bridge on Sunday morning.
Two people sustained injuries while the 30-year-old driver died.
Traffic spokeswoman for the City of Cape Town, Maxine Bezuidenhout confirmed the crash, saying: "One person has died in a motor vehicle accident on the M5… when a car drove into the bridge at the Klipfontein exit.”
The witness added: “I couldn't believe the speed they were driving at. And from the erratic movements, the driver was definitely drunk. I will never understand why you would put yourself or your passengers in such a position. I heard the people say the driver was drunk.”
