Our mole from Munich confirms that a hot 335kW BMW M3 GT4 Street will be launched after all.
When the car in the pictures first broke cover, we were badgered by know-it-alls who questioned us. They said it wasn't the next BMW M3 CSL but some Nurburgring junkie in his own car.
We have news for you. We were right all along, except that it isn't a CSL but the M3 GT4 - or GT - Street.
The driver in the more recent shots looks very much like one of the Nurburgring experts we know to be on BMW's payroll. And information from our best-informed BMW insiders tells us that this car is set for production. We dont know exactly when, but it will be soon.
Good guess
For the rest, our initial speculation is pretty well spot-on. The M4 GT4 Street will shed about 120kg using carbon fibre and thinner window glass, while the 4-litre, V8 engine has been massaged to deliver nearly 335kW.
We also hear that GT4 Street will be built in response to demand generated by the GT4 racer, but rather than taking a racer and turning it into a road car, M is taking the road M3 and moving forward from there to ensure a far more street-wise solution.
Not a GT4?
Other sources speculate that this is the new BMW M3 CSL.
The car was spotted putting in some hard laps of the Nurburgring, known for its used in testing high-performance models. The car appears be fitted with a front splitter and a massive rear wing. If speculation is to be believed, it will also come with wider tyres and stiffer springs.
Sources says the CLS will shed 100kg by using carbon fibre and thinner glass on the windows. The 4-litre, V8 they say, is expected to remain in the CSL, but power will jump up to 350kW.
Home-styled special
Another source reminds us that this machine lacks any of the compulsory prototype tape and disguise and and tells us this is a Ring regular rushing around in his personal M3 fettled to circulate the Green Hell as quickly as possible.
Somehow we want to believe our first spy.
