Straight-six engines are what BMW does beautifully in cars, but not bikes. At least that used to be the case.
A multitude of four-wheeled models have been, and currently are, powered by BMW's straight-six masterpieces. Now a motorcycle can hold the same claim.
Enter the Concept 6. BMW Motorrad has performed some clever engineering and created a 6-cylinder motorbike. 10cm slimmer than a traditional six-cylinder engine, the Concept 6's engine is designed to fit the Café Racer concept bike .
The long front end and short back end are indicative of this design, while the split face of all current Motorrad models is also visible.
Bridge frame suspension constructed from a light alloy keeps the Concept 6 steady, while duolever and lightweight paralever arms keep the wheels where they belong.
If the concept comes to fruition in the future, the 6 is likely to expand the K-series model range. With a displacement of 1.6 litres, the engine produces approximately the same power as the K-Series' 4-cylinder, but it is said to generate much more torque. An LED display even lets the rider know how much torque is available at any one moment.
The engine delivers 130Nm of torque from 2000rpm. Although the power is the same, fuel economy is still close to that of the 4-cylinder thanks to some clever E-gas technology.
