Three Australians walk into a bar in Malaysia. After a few drinks and a brainstorming session, they decide to build a sports car.
Those words could be the start of an odd joke, but they aren't.
There really are three Australians living in Malaysia who have started their own luxury car company and their creation is expected to be launched early in 2010.
The Bufori CS – another in the long list of oddly-named sports cars from specialist manufacturers – is a two-door coupe constructed from composite materials and it will be powered by a two-litre turbocharged engine.
The CS (which stands for Compact Sports) is the result of Bufori's decision to build a race version of the car to prove the vehicle's capabilities and performance under extreme conditions.
The company's motor sports unit, BMS, has partnered with Axle Motorsport to jointly develop the Bufori BMS R1 using a team of Formula One engineers employing only the highest quality components and materials.
Bufori sales and marketing managing director Joe Lim says that with the Bufori CS, the company is expanding its portfolio to "purist, modern styled sports cars, with the usual uncompromised Bufori quality".
While providing only concept sketches, the company says the CS is "intentionally modern" and has flowing lines and "subtly pronounced" bumpers, with circular LED rear lights for a sporty design.
The monocoque body is made of reinforced carbon fibre and kevlar and is bolted to a space frame chassis.
Bufori's media information remains light on the technical details, which means they either have an amazing trick up their sleeve with the CS or don't have a clue how the final version of the car will be kitted out.
Nonetheless, we wait in eager anticipation for the CS to see if three Ozzies from the East can shake up the motoring world – even just a little bit.
