The last Citi Golf to come off the production line in South Africa has been auctioned off for nearly three times its retail value.

The auction, in celebration of the car brand retiring, lasted for three weeks on the bid-or-buy website.

It was sold for R300 100 to a bidder from Port Elizabeth.

Volkswagen?s Tarryn de Klerk said the money would go to a charity in Port Elizabeth.

"The entire purchase price will go to Ubuntu Education Fund, they are based in PE and work with Aids orphans, their life support, health and education requirements," she said.
