It's the attack of the clones as Citroen's C-Crosser and Peugeot's 4007 SUV twins make their debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

With their chunky French styling, 5+2 seating configuration, powerful yet environmentally friendly diesel engine and four-wheel drive capability, the cars are the first SUVs from either company.

Aside from the different faces, these two cars are virtually interchangeable ? they both have everything from the car on which they're based, the Mitsubishi Outlander.

Up front, the C-Crosser is dominated by the familiar Citroen chevrons that stretch across the multiple-ribbed bonnet to unite with the streamlined headlights.

The Peugeot, in turn, gets a large grille with pronounced vertical elements, and added grillework behind the lion badge mounted on the bonnet.

Both are powered by a 116kW 2.2HDi engine producing 380Nm of torque at 2000rpm. Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, the engine features a Diesel Particulate Filter System.

Taking a "best of all worlds" approach ? for comfort, road holding and off-road capability ? there are three transmission settings that can be changed depending on road conditions and driving style. So drivers can switch between two-wheel drive, electronically controlled four-wheel drive and a lock setting for low-grip conditions, all of which can be selected using a control mounted on the central console.

Further back, the second and third row of seats feature an easy-to-use modular design allowing seating changes to be made quickly to provide a flat floor and load space. The vehicle's dimensions offer comfortable passenger space, over 20 storage compartments and a large boot with a split-opening tailgate for easy loading.

This tailgate optimises the advantages of the flat boot space so heavy objects can simply slide in. Opening in two sections, the lower part is able to support up to 200kg, allowing it to double up as an al fresco seat.

The C-Crosser and 4007 offer a selection of optional hi-tech equipment, including a reversing camera located above the number plate which is automatically activated once the vehicle is shifted into reverse. The image is displayed on the navigation screen.
