document.write("Yes he certainly conducted himself with dignity when he was obviously gutted as anyone would have been under the circumstances. I still feel the chest thumping was not called for after graciously bowing to the crowd when he got out of his car.
On the matter of the points, lets not forget that Kimi gave him 2 points as well in China.
If one looks at the picture over the lat 24 months, Lewis has not only produced spectscular drives, but also amazing overtaking, starting with overtaking Alonso! last year (rookie vs 2 time WDC) winning more races than Alonso and beating Massa by more than 14 points last year and the points gap this year would have been similar, at least ten points.
Sport evokes strong emotions in fans, especially Ferrari McL fans but some sanity must prevail when it is so glaringly obvious that Lewis is a breath of fresh air to this sport with his deeds of daring do in overtaking which has made other drivers look average and has made them get off their collective backsides and try harder because Lewis is showing up their inadequacies.. document.write("Yes Radha, 2 points \"gifted\" by Kimi to Massa but surely Heikki would have done the same to Lewis had roles been reversed. Something which Lewis himself regarded as normal for a team to do. Talking about gifts, let's not forget Ferrari's and Massa's \"gifts\" to Lewis of 20 points in Hungary and Singapore. Engine failure 2 laps from the end and a fiasco in the pits, both whilst enjoying a substantial lead. But that's racing just like all the stewart's decisions are ! Let's also not forget the fact that Lewis had no major mechanical failures affecting the outcome of any of his races this year. Here I salute McLaren on a job well done. Just strange that Heikki had 3 engine/gearbox failures (if memory serves me right) as well as endless trouble with his car throughout the year. Was this favouritism by McLaren allocating the best car components to one driver, Heikki's driving style or purely bad luck ? Only the McLaren team knows and that's a whole other can of worms. Nonetheless, I've said it before and I say it again, Lewis is a good driver and he did well this year, but only time will tell whether he falls into the \"Great Driver\" category such as Lauda, Senna, Prost, Schumi and Alonso ... . Muerte");

document.write("Hi Muerte I agree and ur points are well taken. Just one point though I cannot agree on and thats engine reliability. Would McL not want to win the Contructors as well? Why give Heiki dud machinery. No sense in that surely! and had Heiki been more competititve this year, Ferrari would not have won the constructors.
There has been universal condemnation of the penalties meted out to Lewis and there is has been three comments made by three senior Ferrari people which speaks volumes for what Ferrari think and I am positive they are angling to get him.
Both have been fortunate. Hose drama Lewis wins, Exhaust drama Massa wins, engine failure Lewis wins, China 2 points Massa wins etc etc etc Finally the rain comes down in the last lap drama and Lewis wins! Fate? If so, then even the gods believed Lewis should win!. Radha");
document.write("McLaren
");
document.write("Like I said Radha, Heikki's reliability problems could open up a whole can of worms ! It is common knowledge in F1 that most teams have a no. 1 and no. 2 driver. The same way, they allocate better engineered components to the no.1 driver for many reasons. One of them is budget and financial constraints. Each driver has his own team within the team and the no. 1 driver is allocated the best team. That's a fact. Most teams however do try to balance things out 60/40 let's say, but McLaren was probably 80/20. Yes McLaren would want to win the constructors championship but Ron Dennis has been so fixated on ensuring Lewis is world champion that the constructors' appeared to play second fiddle in his goals. Look at the way Alonso was treated last year. I'm not saying McLaren or Ron Dennis acted wrong, all I'm saying is that so much emphasis was put on Lewis by McLaren that one has to feel sorry for Heikki. Further, when you've got everything behind you including the best single car on the track, if you don't run away with championships then you shouldn't be there in the first place. Hence I also say, Lewis is not a great driver just a good one because he should have obliterated the opposition.... Muerte");

document.write("Take away the reliability issues and penalties dished out. Which driver made the most mistakes throughout the year?
On Another note... I would like to see the points difference between 1'st and 2'nd increased to the 4 points as before. While the championship is about Winning Races and consistancy, it is too heavily waited on consistancy. Look at Kubica (brilliant season!!) but he was within a couple of points of the leaders (up till the last race) without actually winning a race! Theoretically, he could of won the championship by winning one race right up until the last 2 races.. Lepper_Messiah");

Lewis may be in the best car but he delivered in his rookie year against a double WC who everyone knows is really good. Heiki should have did better. I am amzed McL have kept him.If Lewis continues this way, whether he has the best car o not his averages will speak for itself. Being given a good car is one thing but delivering is quite another thing. I don't think Lewis can be called great and I dont think I said this , but what I do believe is that he is very good as in really very good.
To answer L_M, if one looks at Massa Lewis over two seasons namely 07 and 08 Massa does not stack up at all.
Lewis was being called a ###### when he was 8yrs old by his karting buddies because he was winning and it reached ridiculous proportions this year. Only a person of colour can know how that feels and more importantly is that his fellow drivers have been very subdued in their condemnation of this kind of abuse. Collussion?
There was a concerted effort to distabalise him in whatever way possible. He has held his head up high and taken it on the chin and against all this animosity he has delivered. Massa did not have to contend with this.
Just on that point Lewis shines. I dont see arrogance (except when he has that stupid straw in mouth and talks to the press!) just great self confidence and a singleminded purpose very much as Schumey and Senna had in their careers and Lewis is entitled to that.
He is not great and if the racial thing does not get to him I think greatness awaits.
He did it his way and as the poem goes
IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise: etc
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
If he keeps his head to me anyway he will show just what good breeding means when many around him show such poor taste, and those are qualities I like to see in a champion as well
Anyway I think I've said all I will ever say on this subject because he will still have to prove that he has what I think he has. I hope history is kind to him. Radha");

As to the insinuation of Racsim, while to a point I can see where that may be true in Spain, although I would like to think that it was more about support for Alonso considering their history. But for anyone to hint at racism in Brazil is just completely and utterly stupid and ignorant. They do not tolerate racism in anyway and are one of the most mixed societies (if not the most) in the world. As anywhere in the world I'm sure there a couple of redneck idiots who'll spoil the party. Accuse them of bad sportsmanship if you will, but racism????. Lepper_Messiah");
document.write("Massa

document.write("I dont think I said racism from Massa at all. In fact he is without a doubt a gentleman very much in the way I view Lewis and while I was ecstatic for Lewis's win it was painful to see Massa lose. Racism against Lewis goes bacj many many years and it is an unfortunae fact of life but very hard to bear for the one on the receiving end and I said Massa did not have to bear that.
Hope I am a bit more clear, and tou are absolutely right about Brazil and Brazillians. Sorry if it came across wrong!. Radha");

The only thing I would add is that if it had not rained towards the end, with Hamilton lying 4th at the time, there would have been no drama. People forget that Hamilton was in control before the late rain.
I also find it sad with all the naysayers around Hamilton. Why can't fan's just accept greatness when they see it. He is a great driver and deserved the title. Shumi was also disliked by many, as was Senna when he was alive. Both are legends.
Sports fans are incredibly fickle, give Hamilton his dues and well done to Massa for making a fist of it.. Tim James");
