TSI is great!
");
document.write("With every motor manufacturer looking for power along with low fuel consumption and emissions, the VW TSI engine has really hit the nail on the head. With a supercharger that gives boost right from idling speed, then cuts out in the mid-3000's as the turbo gathers speed and boost, it gives seamless power without the usual turbo lag. Brilliant - makes other engines old-fashioned. I can't wait to buy.. doug");
document.write("Ah, but...
");
document.write("There's a catch of course! It's really rediculously expensive! Starting at R215K for the old 75kW 1.6l, not sure exactly how many people can actually afford it. Biggest mistake (yet again)!. MTBer");
document.write("Boring Styling
");
document.write("I wonder how many of the fancy features mentioned in the article are actually standard. VW is notorious for having a bare-bones standard spec with a long list of expensive options. And as for the styling, it looks like a previous generation Golf with some aftermarket \"go-faster\" styling options added on. VW has actually managed to eclipse the Toyota Corolla in the \"boring\" stakes! Take a look at the new Ford Focus (not yet available in SA) on www.autoexpress.co.uk to see some modern styling that really looks good.. Mister T");
document.write("Seamless Power
");
document.write("You don't need a supercharger and turbo charger for seemless power and no turbo lag.
Look at the 330d using M57, M57n and M57N2 type engines. They use VGT turbo's. The vanes are opened or closed based on several factors including throttle. Given the right mapping to the ECU, there is no lag whatsoever..
Not taking anything away from the Tsi...just saying you can have an absence of turbo lag without needing a supercharger.. Thinker");
document.write("(en)Forced Induction
");
document.write("Personally I believe that in a few years time most engines will have forced induction of some type or other, and that there will be very few naturally aspirated engines available. It just makes sense in terms of efficiency given the curent pressure to produce \"greener\" cars. If you think about it, can you imagine a car with no fuel pump, just gravity feed of the fuel into the engine? Well that's pretty much how you are introducing the air into a naturally aspirated engine. The only downside to forced induction is reduced engine life, and that is improving all the time.. Mister T");

How can you compare a 330 Diesel with a 1.4TSI Petrol? Think before you open your mouth!

document.write("Expensive
");
document.write("This car has the same chassis as the old golf and the engines are not entirely new either. How then can they justify such a hefty price? Just profiteering by VW. Couple this with their appalling after sales service and they will sell in great numbers!!!!! Just because South Africans have a habit of accepting the #### that dished out to them. Don’t buy it tell VW to improve everything all car companies in fact should. They should stop putting the garbage that not good enough for export into our markets.. Mr. V");
document.write("Garbage prices
");
document.write("To Mr V - the car you call garbage here just won the World Car of the year award! I agree that the prices are hefty but they are about the same as the outgoing model. The disadvantage VW have over say Toyota, is that the Yen strengthened vs the Euro and so the Japanese are in a better position ito pricing. Be that as it may, I would buy a VW over a Toyota any day and while the 1.6 in the Golf has much less nominal power than the 1.6 Corolla for example, on the road, the performance is much better. I just drove a hired Corolla 1.6 for the weekend and it was the worst performing 1.6 had ever driven - I thought it was a 1.3. And the fuel consumption was horrendous. Also, the quality image that VW offers can't be matched by Toyota or Ford, etc. And finally, re the design, the Golf design is timeless and will age very well whereas designs like the Ford look like Clay Putty and age very quickly.

document.write("What a rip off
");
document.write("VW Golf is a total rip off - the total cost of the basic entry level 1.6 model is 320 thousand rands! This car is 40% overpriced and VWSA think that SA consumers are ####ing stupid.. Mark");

");
document.write("Wow Piet, Thinkers' comments flew straight over your head - you couldn't have missed his point more if it was written in greek! Read it again and see if it sinks in this time! I agree completely with you Thinker...but there are plenty of muppets out there!. Adrian");
document.write("Volkswagen quality - Mercedes and BMW prices
");
document.write("There used to be a joke that you can't buy a Volkswagen and expect a Mercedes. The REAL joke now is that the VW costs exactly the same as a Mercedes or BMW, and you still get a basic car with hardly any features. Whenever I see a VW it makes me realise the nightmare that would have happened in SA if the car industry had never globalised - we would all have no choice but to buy grossly overpriced VW's with #### all features. Thank God for globalisation. Those who want to get ripped off are welcome.. Mark");
