GTI....unjustly expensive
");
document.write("I agree the Gti is a great car I used to drive a Golf, a truly great package. However why is this one R26k more expensive? It’s essentially the same car...same chassis, same design of engine only lighter...same alloy rims, similar interior. How can such a price be justified. Even taking into account the slump in the Rand earlier in the year this car is still way to expensive. It actually is R67k more expensive than when first introduced in 2005. Strange how the motoring journalist leave this out. Once again screw the little guy hey its great!!!. Mr V");

document.write("I agree with you Mr V, but VW might point to an increase in power (8kw) and it's current perceived exclusivity to justify the price.
FYI, GTI's haven't been top of the pile for the last 30 years. The Golf 3 and Golf 4 GTI's were absolute howlers. The Golf 4 GTI was blitzed in a straight line drag by the Jumbo Golf on one episode of Top Gear.. Stuart");

document.write("By the way - VWSA just increased their prices - the reason? Um - they said the rand. WHAT THE ####??? THE RAND IS STRONGER THAN IT HAS BEEN IN THE LAST 3 YEARS. STOP TALKING #### AND LYING TO US - WE ARE NOT ####ING STUPID. WAIT TILL THE RAND IS 20 TO THE DOLLAR - WHAT THE #### WILL YOU DO THEN - REDUCE YOUR PRICES? IDIOTS.. Mark");

");
document.write("Got my MK5 new in Oct '06 for R245k which was fortunate as now @ R317k there's no way I'd be able to afford one. My earnings haven't gone up since then more than 10%, when the increase has been close to 30%. Great car - I take it most months to the Killarney streetcar open days (once a month) and it handles well. I'll hang onto it for many years to come as what with car prices right now I don't even feel spending over 300k is worth it on ANY car (unless you have lots of it!). 2nd hand MK5 GTI @ R200k or so is a darn good deal if one with low mileage can be found (I've only done 42,000 km's in almost 3 years). The MK6 has a WAY nicer interior by the way, makes the MK5 look pedestrian in comparison. But not the end of the world in my mind.. Andrew");
