WardsAuto has named its list of ten best car interiors of 2012.

The list is made up of hatchbacks, crossovers and sedans. The WardsAuto staff selected the ten winners from a field of 40 vehicles with new or significantly improved interiors.

"We saw a tremendously diverse group of interiors this year, and it's obvious to us that automakers are pushing their design staffs harder than ever for interiors that are beautifully appointed, well-equipped and extremely comfortable," says WardsAuto World Editor-in-Chief Drew Winter.

Criteria used in scoring all 40 nominated interiors included ergonomics, safety, material selection, overall value and aesthetics. Judges also rated each interior's human-machine interface and determined how effectively vehicle information is communicated to the driver.

There is no ranking within the list. Here are the winners in alphabetical order:
