Active Torque
No doubt the Active Torque AWD system's ability to increase rear wheel torque distribution when the vehicle is approaching understeer, and conversely decreasing rear torque distribution when the vehicle is approaching oversteer, is in part responsible for this.
The system can also vary torque distribution from 100:0 to 50:50, front to rear, depending on driving dynamics and road conditions.
With dual variable valve timing now in place better fuel economy, smoother engine performance and lower emissions are realised. Overall engine smoothness with more linear power and torque outputs are as a result of these improvements.
Feel the power
This was especially noticeable between 120 and 160km/h on kick-down where it managed 6.7 seconds compared to the much slower 10.3 achieved on test in 2006. The smooth new 6-speed close-ratio automatic transmission further assists in harnessing the improved outputs.
Safety includes such features as integrated control of drive power, steering and braking; front-seat active headrests, 10 crash bags including dual stage crash bags that match the speed of inflation to the front-end collision force.
Though it won't be a cheap option, the RX350 is a refined piece of kit.
