Posted Sat, 16 Jun 2007

Mike Rockenfeller crashed his No 3 Audi R10 out of Le Mans, dealing the German manufacturer an early blow.

The German driver, who is trying to repair his car sufficiently to drive it back to the pits, crashed into the Armco coming out of Tertre Rouge, damaging both the rear end of his car and the barriers.

The accident came after Rockenfeller had just set his fastest lap of the race. He was lying fifth in the R10 he is sharing with Alexandre Premat and Lucas Luhr.

Rockenfeller must repair the car himself if he wants to return to the pits.

Despite the incident, Audi remained on top after the second hour of the 24 hour race. Tom Kristensen, in the No. 2 car is still in front, ahead of Emanuel Collard in the Pescarolo, with the Peugeots of Nicolas Minassian and Marc Gene behind him.
